Illness

I haven't written, because like the rest of the house it gets ignored when everyone is sick. Illness spread through our house pretty quickly in the last week and a half. It began with our son feeling ucky and not eating. that quickly turned to fever, but is now a hacking cough. The baby got an ear infection. We ended up getting her antibiotics which I really don't like doing, but she was really unhappy. While they won't cure the infection they will lesson the pain. In a baby that's a good thing. The trade off...diarrhea. She has just a couple of days left and then we will be doing some gut healing I think. Hubby and I followed the kids into yuck land by a couple of days. I seem to have bounced back pretty quickly, but hubby is still dragging. I'm still coughing, but he is doing that plus the occasional fever.

The only chore that has been getting done on a regular basis is diapers. Cyan has been going through them at record speed. It may be extra laundry, but at least we aren't running out every couple of days to shell out all that money for disposables. I will admit that the thought crossed my mind when I was on diaper number ten and outfit number two before noon on Saturday that disposables might just be easier. I did do two loads of laundry yesterday, but that just scratches the surface. Especially since my inlaws were here at the very beginning of Gabe getting sick. I still have extra towels and sheets to wash from them being here. The dishwasher has been loaded and unloaded a few times, but not daily like I usually do. The counters are nasty too. I hate all the cleaning after a sickness coma. Actually that's not true. I love all the cleaning. Getting all the nasty germs out of the house always seems to help. The problem is getting it all done with Cyan either crying to be picked up or getting in to trouble. I keep for getting to get the moby wrap out of the van. I'm not sure how long I can carry her and do chores though. She gets heavy pretty quickly.

So while the inlaws were here we ate out twice. Both times they paid. I also made two dinners which turned out awesome. Then with being sick we ate out twice. Once was not totally avoidable. Last week we took the baby to her ears checked, and the ran to Meijer to get her Rx. It took two hours!  The crazy thing is they made us wait all that time, and all the did when Karl walked up there was grab a standard ten day bottle of amoxocillian, slap the label on it, and hand it to him! Thanks for making us wander around with a sick baby all that time for that. Anyway we didn't get out of there until seven. That's an hour to Gabe's bedtime, so we ran through Taco Bell. Then on Saturday we ordered a pizza. Karl was deep in yuck by then. He was on call. Had to go in to work, and there was no way Cyan was going to sit with him while I cooked. He felt too bad to cook, so pizza it was! Gabe ate two bites. Cyan cried the whole time. Karl ate soup and then pizza when he got home from work when the cold meds he had taken kicked in. I was feeling ok so I actually ate. Granted I'm always starving thanks to nursing. That is the one thing Cyan did not ever get up while sick. In fact some nights she never unlatched.

Ok I'm off to work on something around here!

Another Monday

I just threw a chicken in the oven. After having to cut the neck off! I buy them pretty often this was one of the worst prep jobs I've seen. There were still lots of feathers on it. I will have two carcass bodies (the other is frozen), so it's time to make stock. I've never made it before, so it should be fun.

I made this kick ass sweet and sour chicken last week that will most definitely stay on the meal list. So Good!

We've really been enjoying eating at home, and trying to cook from scratch as much as possible. I feel my creative juices flowing.

Karl got a small bonus this year. It's better than nothing I guess. We went out shopping on Saturday for work pants for Karl. Now my husband is skinny, so this can be a challenge. We ended up finding him some on the clearance racks at Penny's. It's always our store of choice for him, because they will special order his size for him if they don't have it. If it's a sale we can still get the sale price when it comes in. Anyways we got him four pairs of pants and a leather jacket for fifty bucks! Then we ate in the food court... Gabe was starving, and we used Christmas money so we weren't breaking the rules.

After we left the mall we ran to the pet store for kitty litter where Gabe fell in love with a rat. He wants one for his birthday. I've been doing some research, and they really do make good pets. They only live two years though. That's the bad and good of them I suppose. Anyways it really looks like there is a pet rat in our future. I'm sure he'll need some goading when it comes to cleaning up after it, and possibly feeding it although he feeds the dog and cats most days (unless I get up first).
